What people have said about our villa

“I spent 5 amazing days in Villa Il Cardinale enjoying a yoga retreat organised and taught by Marina, the owner of this wonderful house. The house is a concentration of Roman history with walls from the IV century, antiquities in the garden and Marina was thrilled to tell us the story of the place. I was sharing a bedroom with one of my friends and it was perfect. I really did appreciate the quality of the beddings. Stefania, who helped Marina in the daily tasks, is so nice and makes you feel like in your own house. The weather in early June was perfect for enjoying yoga sessions out of doors, and the swimming pool was the icing on the cake. It’s really a heaven of peace. Can’t wait to go back!
Un abbraccio, Marina e Stefania”

“My expereince at Villa il Cardinale was a rejuvination for the body, mind and soul! I stayed at the villa for a yoga retreat for 5 nights. From morning meditations, to tailored yoga sessions and luxurious massages, by the end of my stay my body felt energised, stretched and relaxed. I have the utmost respect for Marina as a yoga instructor – she has such an intimate knowledge of the human body and condition and is able to seamlessly, through simple instructions and deep breathing, attune your practice to what your mind and body needs. The location itself is heavenly. The entire property is lush and green. We did yoga in an outdoor shala which was truly glorious. We had plently of free time to relax and soak in the sun – my favourite spots were the hammocks under the olive trees or by the pool.
An added bonus of any trip to Italy is of course the food and Villa Cardinale delviers on that as well – From fresh ingrdients from the vegetable garden to superb in-house cooking expertise, it was a wonderfully satisfying culniary expereince.
The location is excellent too – close to the airport and only a 30 minute car ride to Rome. It’s perfect for seeking both needed respite and access to Rome’s art and shopping!
I can’t wait to organise my next visit to this beautifully curated villa.”

“The villa lives up to and exceeds all expectations for comfort, service, aesthetics and dreams. A great supportive ambience for the yoga retreat, plenty of space to find a quiet nook, should you wish, fresh and healthy food and a great ambience. For all those looking for something extraordinary.” Kristina Bramstorp

“The house itself is stunning – a historic cardinal’s villa set in extensive grounds, beautiful gardens and complete with ancient Roman ruins. It has evidently been carefully restored recently and has a wonderful feel to it. There’s a combination of grandeur with high ceilings, fine furnishings, paintings and wall hangings, and yet a reassuringly homely feel with attention to detail throughout. For example, when we arrived, the beds had been made up and the towels laid out with sprigs of fresh lavender. The bedrooms and bathrooms are all well equipped and the rooms are all spacious. There are plenty of power sockets and you can access the internet in most of the rooms and in parts of the garden. There is also a wonderful sense of light throughout the house, and the tall pines, palm trees and orange trees that surround the house mean that you can hardly believe that you are so close to the city centre.

This place is truly magical and perfect for a group with a few days to spend in this fantastic city. Isabel Lovell

“Loved the whole experience. The villa’s owner Marina and her staff were amazing and I felt like I was staying with friends. The villa itself was lovely and had so much character. The accommodation was clean and fresh and the bed super comfortable. The food was delicious, fresh and authentic. I would definitely recommend this villa and I look forward to returning one day soon.”  Karen Brown

“This historic property is a perfect place to stay, one that exceeded all our expectations! This residence is beautiful, convenient, comfortable, spacious, and lush – and offers a very cool combination of ancient authenticity and modern amenity. It allowed us not just to visit Rome (and check off the boxes, although we did!), but really embrace the city by investigating insider-track places, thanks to the affable, energetic, insightful and organized owner, Marina. Her many outstanding suggestions to us regarding optimal sites, restaurants, and timing and tips were enormously helpful. We developed an itinerary, and she and her excellent local assistant, Stefania, vetted it to make sure we nailed the right combination of touring pace and time. And, importantly, we RELAXED, spending a few amazing evenings together at the Villa, just hanging out and enjoying its gorgeous space and one another.  For anyone who appreciates an authentic and historic ambiance, look no further. You will experience Rome as an Emperor yourself, but with better linens and modern appliances! While the Villa is, indeed, magical, what made this visit sing was the incredibly helpful, resourceful, detail-oriented, and dedicated (but not intrusive) staff. In addition to all the advice and on-call help, they arranged all the transportation. Stefania was instantly reachable and she and the wonderful local caretaker, Francesco, were incredibly helpful. Knowing that our time in Rome was short, they cared and wanted each day (whether it was central Rome, the Colosseum, the Vatican, or Herculaneum) to go smoothly for us.  Marina and her staff, particularly Stefania, were there for us every step of the way, from helping us with a forgotten passport and delivering (after another long touring day) the most incredible, homemade minestrone soup we have ever had.” Denise Clinton
